Chapter 5 has incorporated concepts from all of the previous chapters. It uses the integer rules from Chapter 2. It adds and subtracts like terms (in fractional form) and solves equations…all based from Chapter 3. It also extends our work with monomials (Chapter 4) by multiplying and dividing them.
As you may have noticed, mathematics is like building a house. You have to have a foundation in order to continue building the next level. If there are foundational gaps, we can sometimes fill them in as we go along, but at other times, these gaps can cause an entire section of the house to collapse.
Answer the following questions in complete sentences. You may do this in three different posts or all in one post.
1) Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest.
2) Look ahead to Chapter 6. Pick at least two sections and discuss how you think you will need to incorporate knowledge from Chapter 2-5. Be specific.3) This was the first time you had to study for a mathematics final. How did you study for the final? Do you think you were prepared? What should you have done differently?
1)In my opinion my foundational gap is messing up negatives with positives and missing small things that could ruin the whole problem. I understand everything that's been taught it's just that I make careless mistakes.
ReplyDelete2)6.1 Solving Multistep Equations. In multistep equations, you either have to get the answer by dividing, multiplying, adding or subtracting with different kinds of numbers such as fractions, decimals, or just whole numbers. The concepts we got from chapters 2-5. 6.4 Circumference. When you want to find the circumference of a circle, you need a formula and you must divide and multiply and subtract and add in order to get the answer for the circumference or a variable.
3)I checked and skimmed through the 5 chapters and did some problems to practice. I also remembered the ones I remembered I didn't understand or got wrong on a test and reviewed those too. Another thing I did to review for the finals was going over the tests I did previously, or chapters 1-5. If there were any problems I got wrong, I went over it and made sure I wasn't confused.
1) I don't think so because I understand all the concept and how to solve them.
ReplyDelete2)So chapter 6 covers everything we did so far. It is about solving multi step equation and we learn solvin equation in chapter 3. Also chapter 6 has equations with decimal which comes out in 5 chapter. There is also fraction containing variable, fraction comes out in chapter 5 and 4. And lastly in the equation there is integer which is from chapter 2.
3)For the final, I solved the workbook and the text book from chapter 2-5. I think this will help me because the problems cover everything we learned so far.
1) Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest.
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think the negative signs with the fractions are confusing. I know what to do but it gets confusing and sometimes I add when I'm supposed to subtract. I think I have to study on those things and make sure that I am very sure about them.
2) Look ahead to Chapter 6. Pick at least two sections and discuss how you think you will need to incorporate knowledge from Chapter 2-5. Be specific.
Chapter 6 is about Multi-Step Equations and Inequalities. One section is about Solving Multi-Step equations. I think these will be kind of hard but since we already know about the equations, the work will be less. For the second section for inequalities, we learned the inequalities so I think this part would be just a review and would be very easy.
3) This is the first time you have to study for a mathematics final. How are you going to study for the final? Do you think you are prepared? What would you do differently next time?
I am going to work on the scavenger problems and read over the questions on my book and do them. I will redo my homework and problems which will help me remember what I did before. I think I'm not prepared yet because when I did the scavenger hunt, I didn't know some of the questions so I have to look over them.
1) I have gaps in simplifying using only positive exponents (I don't know how to call it) I get confused when I'm simplifying them
ReplyDelete2) There are solving equations with variables on both sides in chapter 6, but since we learned about equations in chapter 2-5, I think it will help us in chapter 6.
3) I studying by looking back at the tests, the homework and problems I got wrong. But, I do not think I am 100% prepared yet.
1) Do you still have foundational gaps in your mathematical knowledge? (aka: Are there concepts that you still do not understand?) If so, what are they? Be honest.
ReplyDeleteI think I have foundational gaps in my mathematical knowledge and they are finding the mean, median, mode and range.
2) Look ahead to Chapter 6. Pick at least two sections and discuss how you think you will need to incorporate knowledge from Chapter 2-5. Be specific.
I think that section 4 will help me from chapter 2-5 because it is about solving equations. We learned to solve equations in chapter 4 and 5.
Another section that can help me is section 6 because we learned how to get the answer for a variable.
3) This was the first time you had to study for a mathematics final. How did you study for the final? Do you think you were prepared? What should you have done differently?
I will study everyday and I will go over all of the chapters that I learned so far. I think I can change my handwriting by making it more neat.
1) I need to practice more on the fraction where you have to put negative exponents on the bottom. I also need to work on simplifying fractions that has letters in them.
ReplyDelete2) For ch 6, you have to use the same method of solving equations from ch. 1.5, equations and solutions and variables and expressions.
3) I'll go through every page in the textbook that we have learned, and solve at least 5 problems from each section.
1) I forgot the concept to multiplying scientific notation which I am going to go over again but other than that there are no other gaps.
ReplyDelete2) The topics on which you can use the information from chapter 2-5 in chapter 6 are:
Solving equations with variables on both sides as you have to use Algebra solving equations using multiplication, dividing, adding and subtracting.
Also in circumference you need to know how to multiply and divide with decimals.
3) I am going to study by reviewing the topics that I didn't really understand when going through the chapters. I am also going to go through all the topics in the chapters. I understand most of the things but I am still going to carry on reviewing.
1) Yes. There are concepts that I still do not understand. It is hard for me to solve problems with variables in them. I don't get moving variables in a fraction, adding fractions with variables, finding denominators and LCDs with variables. Other stuff I am okay with, but variable stuff is hard.
ReplyDelete2) In Chapters 2-5, we learned how to solve simple step equations and inequalities but in Chapter 6, we learned to solve multi step equations and inequalities. I think that learning how to solve the simple stepped problems and related problems helped me to solve the multi stepped ones. Another example is that learning how to prime factorize and simplify fractions also helped me solve and simply fraction equations and find the LCD of denominators with variables.
3) I studied for the final by looking over the tests that I took before and solving extra worksheets. I think I am prepared. I should have looked over the textbooks, too. That is one thing that I would have done differently
1) My gap for math is negative and positive numbers. When solving a complicated problem, double negative numbers are sometimes forgotten. So when I get the answer, it will end up wrong and lose points.
ReplyDelete2) For section 1 of chapter 6, Solving Multiple Steps equation, the problem includes using the distributive property. We have learned distributive property back in chapter 2. For section 4 of chapter 4, Circumference, we need to multiply decimal (3.14). We learned in chapter 5, about multiplying and dividing decimals.
3) To study for the final, I'll go back to our homework and works we did. I'll also go back to our chapter test and look at the reviews. Especially the ones I get wrong. I think I am pretty prepared for the final. :)
1) I think that I'm not sure about how the signs of the integer change. Also, I'm not really good at graphing inequalities. -> (on the number line).
ReplyDelete2) One Section! (:
6.1 Multi-Step Equations
-I think that you would have to know how to solve just normal equations to solve multi-step equations. (From chapter 3)
Second Section! (:
6.5 Multi-Step Inequalities
-I think that you would have to know how to solve inequalities to solve multi-step equations. (From chapter 3)
3)I am going to look over the problems or questions that I got wrong or don't get well. Also, I am going to try looking over most of the word problems.
(: (:
I think the trouble I am having in math is still some word problems. I also think that I may have trouble in coordinate plane. I definitely have trouble doing inequalities in subtracting, adding, dividing, and multiply. I sometimes get confused about the zero and negative exponents. The two sections from chapter 6 that I might have simple problems is calculating. Section two and three in chapter 6 would sometimes make me calculate wrong since their is a lot of step by step. Overall, the chapter looks pretty simple. The problem with me is that I should focus a little bit in the chapter. What I did to study for a final is that I would review the terms that I have learned in the school semester and keep on reviewing for it until I understand about what I am learning. I would only look at the work that I have done during class. I haven't even started preparing, but I think I would do it today and other days before the exam happens. What I should have done differently is that I should look at the class textbook to get a better understanding of the subjects. It also has everything for me to understand more concepts of each subjects.
ReplyDelete1. I don't really have foundational gaps in what we have learned so far.
ReplyDelete2. I think two sections we will use again are from chapters 3 and 4. In chapter 3, we first learned inequalities. In chapter 6, we are going to learn multi-step inequalities. In chapter 4, we learned about rational numbers. In ch. 6, we are going to learn about fractions and decimals.
3. I am studying by looking over the lessons. I think I am prepared. I can do differently by doing some problems again.
1) I feel like I do have some gaps here and there but they aren't very big so I can't understand the whole topic. I can answer simple questions of the scientific notation but if it is confusing like multiplying, then I take a while to solve the equation.
ReplyDelete2)I think you need work from chapter 2 on integers and distributive property because in chapter 6, you should be very familiar with both integers and the distributive property. Also, you should be familiar with monomials because basically, chapter 6 is a mix of all the chapters. So you should be pretty familiar with all the sections.
3)How I studied for the final was to just look back at my tests and my quizzes. I went over the test and looked more carefully at where I made the mistakes so I wouldn't make it again when I take the final. I think I can never be fully prepared because when I feel like I really studied hard, my mind keeps thinking just a little bit more and more so I think I can't be fully prepared but I will do my best to prepare.
1) I don't have any concepts that I don't understand. However, once in a while, I get confused or mixed up when I do scientific notation.
ReplyDelete2) 6.1 is about solving multi-step equations. To do that section we need to know how to do Chapter 3 because all of the questions on Chapter 3 is about solving equations. For 6.3, which is solving equations involving fractions and decimals, you need to know Chapter 5. All of Chapter 5 is about fractions and decimals.
3) When I study for the final, I am going to review everything I learned. First, I'm going to read the textbook explanations where they tell you how to do it and solve it. After I do that, I am going to do a few review questions. I will look at the textbook and pick a few questions from each section of each chapter. Also, I might ask a friend to quiz me by writing a few questions for me. I haven't done a lot of studying for the math final yet because I was studying for the other finals that I had to take on Monday and Tuesday. However, after I study some more, I think I will be well prepared for the final.
1) I don't have anything I do not completely understand, but for me integers confuse me for a while, but when I solve the equation it is not difficult at all, even though I struggle and hesitate in the beginning.
ReplyDelete2) In Chapter 6 we are going to go over multi-step equations and inequalities. I think that multi-step equations will not be so hard, because we have gone over difficult equations already in chapter 3. For multi-step inequalities I find them almost exactly like equations because the sign is the only difference and you have to flip it when you have to. We also learned about these in Chapter 3 which will make it easier for us.
3) I studied for the test by looking over the chapters from the textbooks on pages 801-805. I also looked back in my notebook, tests, and quizzes to see my old mistakes so I won't make the same mistake again. I have trouble making silly mistakes so I think I just have to keep solving problems.
